We are pleased to announce Br. Patrick Reilly has been elected the Brotherhood of Hope’s General Superior at our Assembly held on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
Cardinal Sean O’Malley of the Archdiocese of Boston, which is our canonical home, recently called Br. Patrick from Rome to confirm his election and congratulate him on becoming our next General Superior.
Br. Patrick succeeds Br. Ken Apuzzo, whose humble, caring pastoral service has graced our Brotherhood since 2013.
Due to some recent health issues, Br. Ken has decided to end his term of service. The timing of his decision corresponds to Pope Francis’ recent guidance that religious superiors limit their service to 10 years. Therefore, Br. Ken decided now was a good time for him and the Brotherhood to embrace the Holy See’s approach.
Br. Patrick will complete Br. Ken’s term as General Superior. In December 2024, we will hold our next Assembly to elect a General Superior for a four-year term.
Reflecting about our new General Superior, Br. Ken recently said, “Brother Patrick will do an excellent job as our new Superior. He is highly respected by the Brothers, and he has fruitfully served on our governing council for several years. It's also encouraging that our Brotherhood elected a General Superior that reflects "the next generation" of leaders!"
Br. Patrick first met the Brothers while attending Florida State University. After graduation he entered our novitiate, professed his first temporary vows in 2002, and then joined our campus ministry team at Boston University. During his eight years at B.U. he received his Masters in Ministry at St. John’s Seminary and in 2005 professed his perpetual vows.
Later in 2010 he joined our campus ministry team at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, where he served as campus minister, and more recently, as Director of Campus Ministry since 2016.
In addition to our General Superior, we also elected Br. Parker Jordan, currently serving at Rutgers University, to our Council. Br. Parker joins Br. Clinton Reed and Br. Ted Psemeneki, who was elected by the Brothers to be the First Councilor. Our Council’s principal role is to support and advise the General Superior in decisions affecting the overall operations of the Brotherhood.
We thank you for your ongoing prayers of support during this time of transition for our community. Please know that you remain in our prayers.
God Bless,
The Brothers
